AMPP’s Annual Conference + Expo 2027 Research Topical Symposium
Toward Reliable Corrosion Prediction: Data-Driven Environmental Characterization and Accelerated Test Correlation
This Research Topical Symposium (RTS) will explore the characterization of environmental severity and corrosivity, the development of predictive corrosion models, and the correlation of accelerated laboratory testing with real-world outdoor exposure performance. Topics of interest include atmospheric and environmental characterization, ISO corrosivity categorization, corrosion monitoring and sensing technologies, environmental data collection and analytics, mechanistic and data-driven corrosion modeling, machine learning and artificial intelligence applications, accelerated corrosion testing methodologies, laboratory-to-field correlation, service-life prediction, and validation using long-term outdoor exposure programs.
The symposium will provide a forum for researchers, industry practitioners, standards developers, and asset owners to discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with establishing reliable links between environmental exposure conditions, accelerated testing protocols, and actual corrosion performance. Particular emphasis will be placed on improving the predictive capability of laboratory tests, developing scientifically grounded acceleration factors, understanding environmental drivers of degradation, and advancing digital approaches for corrosion forecasting and risk assessment.
Specific topics include but not limited to:
- Environmental severity assessment and atmospheric corrosivity classification.
- Field exposure testing and outdoor corrosion monitoring programs.
- Environmental sensing technologies and corrosion monitoring systems.
- Data-driven corrosion prediction and machine learning applications.
- Mechanistic, empirical, and hybrid corrosion modeling approaches.
- Accelerated corrosion testing methods and protocol development.
- Laboratory-to-field correlation and validation methodologies.
- Service-life prediction of materials, coatings, and engineered systems.
- Climate-specific corrosion assessment.
- Standards development and qualification methodologies for corrosion testing and prediction.
The goal of this symposium is to foster collaboration between academia, industry, government laboratories, and standards organizations to advance the science and practice of corrosion prediction. Presentations may include fundamental research, field studies, sensor deployments, modeling frameworks, accelerated testing innovations, standards activities, and case studies demonstrating successful correlation between laboratory and real-world corrosion performance.
This RTS invites researchers, engineers, asset managers, testing laboratories, standards organizations, and industry stakeholders to share recent advances and identify future directions toward more reliable, scientifically defensible corrosion prediction methodologies.
RTS is an invite-only session.
